A local daily paper in Detroit, Michigan ran a promotion designed to generate buzz about the paper in general, but more specifically a section designed for children called The Yak®. The paper decided to create a specially-designed custom decal featuring the Yak character.
Each Tuesday the Yak section is published, where young readers enjoy stories, cartoons, and puzzles. The paper also includes a form where kids can become a member of the “Yak® Pack.” New members receive a Yak Pack kit containing the promotional decal set, as well as Yak® imprinted Post-It Notes, pencils, a t-shirt, and other items!
The newspaper noticed notable growth and recognition of the Yak® program, and consequently the paper name and brand, as well.
Promotional Points –
1) Promotional product stacking – Newspaper utilized multiple products in their Yak Pack promotion. With such a generous gift, customers are bound to talk to others about it!
2) Well-integrated design – Each item in the promotion was “Yak-oriented,” which causes consistent, clean, memorable branding.
3) Promotion complimented the product – The newspaper already had a solid product, they just needed a way to get people to notice it. By creating buzz, they were able to show off their already stellar section!
